As the Editors of Meghan’s Mirror, one of the questions we get asked most often is just how we manage to identify the clothing that Meghan wears so quickly after she wears it.
There are 5 steps that we use to be able to quickly and reliably source the exact fashion details of everything Meghan Markle wears for Meghan’s Mirror. And we’re going to share with you exactly what those 5 steps are.
Method 1: Our Team
The Meghan’s Mirror team is comprised of several team members, and one of the most valuable ways we manage to quickly identify things is through that team. For example, we have a dedicated stylist for Meghan’s Mirror who has worked with celebrities in Paris and Los Angeles who is extremely familiar with brands Meghan wears and is often able to pick it out from their photographic memory of past collections.
Our Creative Director, Christine, has been following royal fashion like it’s her job (well, because it kind of is ;)) for years and can often recall a certain type of collar or embroidery detail as being from a certain designer which will lead us down the path of an identification. And yes, a single collar can sometimes be enough!
Method 2: The Community
There is a whole community of women out there – talented, professional, fashion-obsessed women – who absolutely adore the style of Meghan Markle.
They are a huge resource for us as they are a wealth of knowledge about brands. While much of the discussion happens on social media (or on DMs), many of us have connected off social media either via e-mail, What’s App or text.
Method 3: Royal Reporters
Royal Reporters have historically, on occasion, gotten information about the fashion choices of female members of the royal family – especially if the items are from small, local brands that the royal is looking to shine a spotlight on.
They can get them from the Palace aides or from brands themselves, but they do on occasion get the scoop and share it with us!
Method 4: Press Releases
For large events (like royal weddings) or for specialized events (like on some Royal Tour events), there are on occasion press releases issued by the Palace which will share fashion details. These will generally only share the specific brand, and the specific style will be left for identification.
Press releases also come from the brands themselves, sometimes as soon as they know that Meghan has worn a piece or sometimes a few hours later once they’ve received confirmation of their own.
Method 5: If all else fails…
Google! We have a fashion dictionary that we keep handy that has many different types of collars, styles of stitching, hem lengths and colours available that we can use when searching the depths of the internet for a particular piece. This is a good method if you have tried all other ways and can’t figure anything out – but if it’s the first place you start, it can be a very (very) long process.
Hopefully this helps unravel some of the mystery behind the scenes at Meghan’s Mirror. The truth is that after years and years of doing this, we’ve managed to get really good at it! But we get a lot of help from the 5 things above. We’re working on bringing more types of content like this to you – so let us know if there are any more “BTS” looks we can provide!
